Where is Roanoke?The Roanoke Valley is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western Virginia, along Interstate 81 (and close to Interstates 64 and 77). We are almost exactly equidistant between New York and Atlanta, and within a day’s truck shipping distance of two-thirds of the U.S. population. The Valley is made up of the counties of Alleghany, Botetourt, Craig, Franklin and Roanoke; the cities of Covington, Roanoke and Salem, and the Town of Vinton. It covers 1,876 square miles and has an elevation of 1,149. More than 318,000 people call the Valley home and more than 1,000,000 people use it as their regional center for health care, transportation, employment, shopping and entertainment.
