PROFESSIONAL AND COLLEGE ATHLETICS
The Roanoke Region is home to a professional baseball team and several college teams. From Division I sports to Division II and III championship games, sports are always in season.

Atlantic Coast Conference
The Virginia Tech football program ranks among the best in the nation, having appeared in a postseason bowl game every year since 1993. After grabbing several ACC championships, Beamer Ball is bigger than ever. You can also experience ACC basketball and a softball team that has competed in the Division I World Series.
SALEM RED SOX
Class High-A
Baseball affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, is a popular team with all ages. Games are played in one of the most scenic minor league parks in the U.S.--Salem Memorial Stadium.
FRANKLIN COUNTY SPEEDWAY
The Franklin County Speedway, a 3/8ths mile oval track, hosts Late UCar, Mod 4, Late Model Stock, and Street Stock races from late spring to early fall.
FERRUM COLLEGE PANTHERS
USA South Athletic Conference
The Panthers compete in Division III USA South Athletic Conference, playing baseball, basketball, cross county, football, golf, soccer, tennis, lacrosse, softball, and volleyball. Eight former Panthers are currently competing professionally including Billy Wagner.
HOLLINS UNIVERSITY
Old Dominion Athletic Conference
Hollins has a competitive equestrian program and also basketball, golf, lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, swimming, and tennis teams that compete in the Division III ODAC.

Roanoke College is famous for outstanding lacrosse teams. Every year the Maroons finish in the nation's Division III top 5. The Maroons also compete in baseball, basketball, soccer, and softball.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS
With over 15 high schools in the Roanoke Valley competing in basketball, baseball, track, cross country, tennis, lacrosse, football, softball, swimming, volleyball and golf, there are plenty of athletic events happening throughout the year. Nearly all of the schools in the area hold regional and state titles and compete regularly in playoffs and postseason title games. Prep stars from the Roanoke Valley stars who have played professionally include J.J. Redick (NBA), Tiki and Ronde Barber (NFL), Lee Suggs (NFL), and George Lynch (NBA).
