Carilion Clinic Named One of Nation’s ‘Most Wired’ Healthcare Systems

ROANOKE, Va. (July 25, 2012)Carilion Clinic has been selected as a 2012 “Most Wired” healthcare system according to the Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study. Hospitals are named to the list based on a detailed scoring process. The survey evaluated hospitals on four factors: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration.

“Recognition as a ‘Most Wired’ organization is a testament both to Carilion’s commitment to patient care and to the utility of efficient, effective technologies to support our physicians, nurses and staff as they care for patients,” said Nancy Howell Agee, president and chief executive officer at Carilion Clinic. “As an organization we’ve made significant investments in our information technology infrastructure because we recognize the key role technology plays in improving quality and patient safety.”

The goal of the survey is to benchmark health system’s progress with information technology and as a result, creates a snapshot of the use of IT in U.S. hospitals. Hospitals & Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association, has published the “Most Wired” list annually since 1998 and Carilion has been named to the list nine times.
