Geography

The Roanoke Region of Virginia consists of counties and cities at the southern end of the Shenandoah Valley nestled between the Blue Ridge and Alleghany mountain ranges. From city streets to rolling hills to majestic mountains, the Roanoke Region offers urban, suburban, and rural landscapes and living. The temperate climate gives four distinct seasons that are neither too warm nor too cold but just right to take advantage of the golfing, hiking, climbing, and biking dominant in the region.

Close to Major Markets.
The region's transportation heritage goes back to the crossing of rail lines in the 1880's around which sprung the largest metro area in Western Virginia. Today, a central East Coast location gives easy access to major population centers via Interstates 81 and 64, commercial service from Roanoke Regional Airport, and major rail lines of Norfolk-Southern and CSX. The Roanoke Region is equidistant from New York and Atlanta and within a day's drive of 2/3rds of the U.S. population.

Reduces Shipping Time and Expense.
Location and logistics are strong advantages of the Roanoke Region. The area is served by a Port of Entry and Foreign Trade Zone to save time and money for companies doing business outside of the United States. A large UPS hub is located here and the region is served by major air freight and package express companies. Evidence of the region's reputation as a logistics hub is the approximately 70 trucking lines serving the area with local, state, and interstate service.

The Roanoke Region is all about location, location, location.
